War Memorial Archive

This website commemorates the 158 Old Johnians and two members of staff who fought and lost their lives in the First World War. Altogether 768 former pupils, mostly sons of the clergy, and 21 teachers served in WWI. The names of all who served in the armed forces, up to and including 1918, are recorded on a hand written, illuminated War Memorial. This consists of 42 boards which were formerly mounted on the walls in the old library (now the staff room) in the main building. These and other records from the school archives have now been digitised thanks to a generous donation from the Willis family.

Individual biographies for each of those who died, together with photographs, letters and diary extracts will be included, and we are grateful to all who have contributed to the research so far.

If you are related to an Old Johnian and can provide any further information or photographs for our archive, or have any queries, please contact the School Archivist, Mrs Sally Todd: stodd@stjohns.surrey.sch.uk
